One of one. Vintage Japanese Haori. Hand-selected in Japan. Heirloom.

Cut from deep black silk crepe, Obsidian Bloom is a study in shadow and restraint. At first glance, the surface reads as pure black — matte, quiet, and composed. Step closer, and the story begins to unfold.

Woven directly into the silk are chrysanthemum blooms, maple leaves, and trailing florals, appearing subtly through shifts in light and movement. The motifs are not printed but integrated into the fabric itself, emerging in muted tones of rust red, sage green, charcoal, soft bone, and ash — never loud, always intentional.

The placement is asymmetrical and deliberate, concentrated along one side and dispersing softly across the body. This creates a sense of movement — like petals carried by night air.

Cultural note

The chrysanthemum (kiku) is one of Japan’s most revered symbols, associated with longevity, renewal, and quiet authority. Often reserved for imperial or ceremonial contexts, it appears here subdued and off-centre — a mark of confidence rather than display.

Maple leaves (momiji) speak to impermanence and seasonal change, reinforcing the transient beauty of the piece.
